I contacted Trish after a recommendation and to say the work we did together changed my life is an understatement. I had been diagnosed with a panic disorder that triggered health and social anxiety which left me very unsure about my future. While I did spent some time in a facility to help me come to terms with my diagnosis and teach me coping techniques it was the work I did with Trish that opened a whole new chapter in my life, I would actually say it was the beginning of my life, a life I lost when my father passed away when I was 19. Through Art psychotherapy I was able to feel my emotions and also see them in Art form as well, I must add I am not an artist but it is not about the product it is about the process. Trish used other technics to help me address life experiences that had a big impact on me between 19 and 21 years of age (I am now 53). I was able to communicate with 19 year old me and 21 year old me which as I said was a very difficult time in my life and had shaped me into the person I had become. Through this therapy I found I was at peace with my past and able to congratulate myself for what I had achieved in my life. Trish is a wonderful ,kind and softly spoken person with a wonderful talent for helping people turn there negativity into positivity, I would highly recommend Trish if you wish to put happiness back in your life.

Exploring art psychotherapy allowed me to communicate with both my adult and child self in a more genuine way. The drawing and meditation practices helped me to get deeper than the thought patterns and storylines which were ingrained and instinctively used as defense mechanisms. Through simple or more detailed drawings, we were able to discuss fears, self-perceptions, and goals and work through their implications. I felt supported through any insecurities about drawing and, even more importantly, through the impactful insights that came from them. Trish's patience, warmth and compassion creates a safe space to be open and listened to. I am so grateful to have her as a therapist.
“My sessions with Trish have been fantastic. I have gained a lot of clarity surrounding my thoughts and feelings. Trish is a warm person and very easy to open up to. I felt comfortable and listened to. The art aspect was great. I originally was apprehensive about art therapy, but I found it to be a great way to communicate emotions and make sense of them. I am so grateful for the sessions I have had and would recommend them to anyone who is considering it. ”

“Having experience as a client of psychoanalysis and Jungian psychotherapy I was interested to participate in a different approach to analysis. Art psychotherapy with Trish Banks helped to bridge a gap with past events and led to a better understanding of the inner child. Our work together using pencil and paper as a medium was eye-opening and very effective as a practice. Additionally, Trish introduced me to new breathwork and meditation techniques which I have since adopted in my daily life.

“Working with Trish is an utterly transformative experience and because of her work, I feel present for the first time in my life. I am now able to challenge my learned patterns of behavior, enforce boundaries and separate out my emotions. Trish has not only helped me understand where my behaviors come from, as she supported me in revisiting past experiences, but she has also taught me how to challenge reactive behavior in a compassionate way. This compassionate component is a key element of Trish's work and it made me feel safe as we revisited some harder parts of the past. Despite being nervous about the art therapy element of the work, I am now aware of the power this medium has in creating a dialogue with the subconscious and I am in awe of what came up as I was encouraged to create. I am incredibly grateful to have found Trish and taking the opportunity to work with her was one of the best decisions I have ever made.”

Trish has had a very powerful and meaningful impact on my life. When I started Art Psychotherapy I didn’t know what to draw at first but then I realised it’s not about knowing what to draw or becoming the next Pablo Picasso. It’s about just putting pencil to paper and allowing the process to happen. Once I understood this, I couldn’t stop drawing. Drawing became a means of expressing myself. If I felt anxious, stressed, frustrated or angry I would draw. As well as a drawing I also journaled and meditated daily. This combination of techniques was incredibly effective for me. I developed my imagination and awareness which allowed me to observe my thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Without awareness you are living in darkness, Art Psychotherapy is the light that allows you to see. Once the light was turned on, I began taking action and started making the necessary changes in my life. This has resulted in a tremendous sense of inner strength and peace. If you are considering starting Art Psychotherapy I would strongly recommend Trish.”

A Creative Approach to Inner Child Work
I completed a one-day workshop entitled A Creative Approach to Inner Child.Work with Trish Banks. I found Trish to be very knowledgeable about the subject, both academically and in a way that demonstrated her significant client experience in the area.
The psychosynthesis framework that was used as the container for the core inner child work provided us both with safety as participants and a route by which we might as therapists seek to approach the area in our own client work.
I would highly recommend a training course by Trish Banks if you are looking for a solid path towards engaging with inner child work.

Trish Banks presented a comprehensive and powerful workshop on A creative Approach to the Inner Child. From start to finish Trish was both informative and approachable on this topic. She managed to bestow an amazing understanding of the inner child work in a short time yet the workshop did not feel rushed or in any way pressured. She was generous with the PowerPoint slides and reflections used during the workshop. I look forward to attending another workshop with Trish very soon.

I am in my 3rd year of studies and felt unable to work at any depth with my clients around their Inner Child. I signed up to Trish's workshop but when I realised I needed art materials I was a bit concerned, but thankfully it was extremely interesting, informative and useful and it has given me a really good framework and resources to use in my practice. The experiential element has given me confidence to use the techniques with my clients and whilst I am no artist, it was good to push me out of my comfort zone, I found the whole day to be really rewarding and the exercises were very powerful. Creative Practice for Self-Supervision.
‘I recently took part in a CDP day facilitated by Trish, a webinar on Creative Practice for Self-Supervision. This was a deeply enlightening day where Trish easily interwove the theory of what we were doing alongside practical experiential exercises. She held a large group with ease and created a real sense of safety to share what came up for us. I can see how the creative aspect can be such a powerful resource for our self-care and process work as therapists and feel confident to begin my own practice around this now.’ Margaret O’Connor
Creative Self Care Day
The day was a gift to the counselors and psychotherapists who offer their time and energy to the Northside Counselling Service
Here's what some of the participants had to say about the day.
" I enjoyed becoming creative and the personal insights gained. It will greatly contribute to my self-care journey"
" The experiential part was very effective, I got a lot of personal awareness"
" I was suspicious of the creative side but was put at ease quickly and was really able to engage "
" Enjoyed the learning and connecting"
" Felt free to experience, to speak out, and to share myself"
" Not being artistic, I found the experience very valuable"
“Working with Trish was a gentle and refreshing experience. By beginning my journey of self-knowing using the tools of self-expression of art and drawing I set in motion important changes in my life and began to seek healing and release. These practices that I developed with Trish have become my own and led to internal transformations. I can recommend this approach to anyone who wants to get to know parts of themselves creatively and softly in order to allow a flow of new information about the self previously inaccessible.“

''Through this creative and profound style of therapy, Trish introduced a whole new layer of self-growth and understanding as to how I communicate with myself and the world around me. Her guidance and words came at a time when I was in need of a deeper understanding of myself. Her sessions are thoroughly enjoyable, of deep benefit and achieve results. She is incredibly connected and wise, and has a wonderful way with words. You don't need to be able to draw, this style of therapy goes so much deeper, I cannot recommend her enough. Thank you Trish''
